I don't watch Desperate Housewives, but I'd be INSULTED if I were from "some med school in the Philippines."
Susan Mayer Delfino, played by Teri Hatcher, was talking with her OB-Gyne in the scene. Her doctor told her that she might be hitting menopause (with her saying that she's too young for that).

It looked like some show about horny women fearing menopause, aging, sagging boobs etc. I maybe wrong pero yun ang tingin ko. Abouut sa racist remark, dapat ikalat to ng malaman ng lahat ng pinoys. Bobo pala writer ng show na to eh. Filipino doctors are among the best in the world. Filipino health professionals (nurses, caregivers) are being praised for their dedication and professionalism. Sino ba ang madalas makasuhan ng malpractice? Di ba mga puti? Nag-init ulo ko nung narinig ko yung conversation nung dalawang characters. Nagmamarunong ka pa Teri putanginamo! Parang gusto ko sumabat sa usapan nila. Yes you're old! You don't need an OB-Gyne. You need someone to check your brain pukinanginamo! We have outstanding neurosurgeons, FYI. |

| Sometimes you can not blame the writer or any person that would make comments about filipino doctors. Because if you will look at the figures, many Filipino doctors that went out to work in other countries like the U.S. are employed as nurses, paramedics or assistant MD.  | this is not new anymore, to those people who are watching the TV Series "one tree hill", surely they knew that uncle keith scott have also said something about his nephew Lucas scott's (played by Chad Michael Murray)tattoo on his Upper arm-. It is on it's very first season... I'm filipino and i'm proud of it... i also don't watch the show bec. i don't like the attitude of most americans (but don't get offended here because i'm not stereotyping or saying that i hate all americans, of course there's still some that i love about them like they're really great in making good quality films...)...but if you'll gonna ask me i still want being a filipino more than any other races bec. they know how to live life to the fullest like living it on its ups and downs---through thick and thin, families are still bonded and intact--- that what makes filipino great--- we could do many things bec. we are such talented people.  | To echoshadow1 What's wrong with doctors from the Philippines working as nurses, paramedics, or assistant MD. Masyadong maliit ang kita sa PI kaya napipilitang maghanap ng trabaho sa ibang bansa. Mga pulitiko kasi puro kurakot lang ang alam. Do you know how hard it is to be an MD here in the US lalo na kung may pamilya ka na? Kung utak lang ang pag-uusapan kayang-kaya ng mga Filipino doctors. But you need time, money, and lots of luck on your side. It's whom you know, not what you know pa rin dito. Kung hindi ka doctor sa PI you don't have the right to ridicule them. You don't know the hardships they have gone through. Suerte-suerte lang. At least, naghahanapbuhay sila ng marangal, hindi nagnanakaw. And please take note, Filipino doctors here in the US are much much better. History taking pa lang, wala na sila. |
| Actually if you looked at the whole episode, the script also ridicules Harvard Medical School, because its OB GYN graduate failed to suspect pregnancy as a cause of her menses stopping! Inuna pa niya mag-suggest ng menopause in a very tactless manner. That was why Teri's character became defensive.
But then, the script still should NOT have made insensitive sweeping negative remarks about Philippine medical schools. Granted there may be some bad eggs who go there to practice as MDs, but they should not generalize. Before Filipino educated MDs practice in the States, they need to pass a 3 tier examination by the US Boards! This has nothing to do with MDs going to the States as nurses at all. |
