When Ange and I met up a couple of days ago, she showed me the blog of a certain Brian Gorrell called The Talented Mr. Montano, whose exposés are fast becoming controversial in the Philippines. He's been blogging about the so-called Gucci Gang in which Tim Yap, a high society snob, is a member of. The controversy has even made it to Wikipedia. Go figure.

Frankly, I have no passion for the high society people, much less Tim Yap. I still can't forget his idiotic remark about how this generation is guiltless and if they want to party all night long, then who cares about the hungry Filipinos? How moronic can he possibly get?

Shit, I'm almost ashamed to read about this Gucci gang controversy. I honestly had no idea who these people were (except Tim Yap, but then, I only came to know him after the insensitive remark) before the controversy. =D

Kidding aside, I agree with Sir Dominique about the widespread issue of how blogging can ruin one's life. Instead of attacking the medium itself, people should concentrate more on the core issue. This isn't JUST about blogging. Excellent read.

Is traditional Philippine media any more competent than bloggers? They may be, because ideally they undergo training in ethics, style, and coverage; but a quick glance through the lifestyle section of the two top dailies quickly demolishes this argument. What's the selection process for the privilege of writing in a national daily again?

Long live free speech, indeed.

PS: Apparently, Malu Fernandez really has it in for anonymous people. Bitter kasi, nyahahaha!

Ange, you know I don't watch ABS-CBN :p
angesh wrote on Apr 3
ay oo nga. pero you should watch it on youtube. he seems so sincere and all.

Done. Kaso isa lang. Ne, sob story. Wonder why he never mentioned anything about his illness? Or maybe it's just something you don't talk about on public TV. I do hope he gives DJ Montano and his cohorts a good and legal slap in the face though. And wow, he's rich na. Almost $2K alone in Paypal donations. Ayus! Mga Pinoy kaya lahat nag-donate? Wonder if those same people even give their poor kababayans the time of day? Watcha think?

PS: Just hearing the TV Patrol theme makes me cringe, seriously. Actually, just the thought of something from Ch2 makes me sick. Haha. Ang sama ko talaga.

yeah siguro i think it's just not something you talk about on TV. pero admit it, he's kinda hot. and his body's so buff. :p

anyway, his blog has been sort of an eye-opener even to those who have always been 'in the scene'. pero i think some of our kababayans who have been posting there and commenting on the issue have also forgotten yung core problems that the blog may have inadvertently tackled.

shet ang seryoso natin. :)

He's...cute. Heh. I like his "pained smile" while he's being interviewed :p

>>> NO OFFENSE MEANT (hmm...konti siguro, hehe) <<<

Hay naku, may mga tao talagang nanghu-huthot, whether sa kapwa Pinoy or sa mga foreigners. Heck, even foreigners do it. I don't know why it should be an eye-opener, although I'm thoroughly disgusted by the actions of The Talented Mr. Montano and his minions. I just don't think we're that naive and gullible not to realize that it's been going on for hundreds of years na. In a word: politics. It's like selective amnesia, only this time, it's selective blindness to the things we don't want to acknowledge na nangyayari mismo sa bansa.

Maybe "justice" is part of this. Oh, right, sure, yes, justice is definitely a part of it.

It's more of a reaction in defense of Filipino amor propio. And the tendency of Pinoys to practically disown their own people when they they deem the actions of the latter as nakakahiya. Pansin mo, comments along the lines of, "Yan ang sumisira sa pangalan ng mga Pinoy" are so rampant whenever it's about an issue that causes a stir not only in our own country. Pag involved na yung ibang bansa.

We take pride in our accomplishments, but ignore our OWN social and moral responsibilities. We place the blame on others, not ourselves. See, we're relatively apathetic pagdating sa isyu sa bansa, even moral ones, pero pag may ganitong isang tao o grupo na tagilid sa paningin natin, galit na galit tayo.

Sure, I do feel for Mr. Brian Gorrell. In fact, I support him and his cause. I'd like justice to be served (ohhh, I'd have a field day pag nakulong sina Tim Yap, nyahahaha). Pero there's just something twisted and...wrong...about how some people are taking this.

Parang yung sa Desperate Housewives issue. We can make fun of ourselves, but other nations cannot make fun of us else we take offense. We have, dare I say, a high regard for ourselves. For our nationality. That is, when the world is watching.

It's a hypocritical logic, if it can even be called a logic.

I mean, damn, if we're such good people, the thing we ought to do it make everyone around us become a better person. In short, we lack action.

(Out of topic, pero it reminds me of a Twitter discussion with a Twitter friend yesterday about the environment)

Ang SPREAD THE LOVE AND JOY! Hehe!

shucks true. sobra sila kung manlait and all that about that certain delfin "dj" montano and his cohorts when in fact they've also been doing what celine lopez et. al. have been doing.

sample: naiinis sila kay celine lopez dahil walang ginagawa si celine para sabihin ang kanyang so-called BFF na si dj montano to pay brian back. eh parang ganto lang yan e. naisip ko yung mga nagpopost ba jan, are they also doing something to help our country solve some of its problems like yung poverty etc? in a way we're all celine lopezes and other members of the gucci gang. kumbaga parepareho lang tayo walang ginagawa. it's just that dj montano, celine lopez, tim yap, etc. are famous people and since they're famous, wala tayong magagawa kundi ang tingnan ang buhay nila. talagang kinonek ko sa national scale.

tama ka, we're all hypocrites. pero i'm not saying that i don't support bryan g. for exposing all this and that i hate all those commenters on his site. in fact, i even commend him for doing such especially to tim yap and everyone else. it's high time na rin naman for them to be deglamorized from all that shizzle.

pati tuloy ako tumaas ang blood pressure. :))
